It’s an amazing thing when 200+ people get together to celebrate one person. Seriously. I’m overwhelmed when I get invited to be part of a party filled with love and happiness.

So let’s see here…alright. This party came by way of my college roommate’s sister’s husband. His mom Debbie was turning 60, so his wife Melany reached out to me because of Cameron (the roommate’s) recommendation. Did you catch all that? ;)

Simple, really. I immediately said YES to the opportunity and joined Melany, Brian, his family, and all their friends for a surprise birthday party at Barrister Gardens in St. Clair Shores.

And it was a great day for a party, too! The sun was out and everyone was there to show some love to an amazing woman.

It was also one of the rare times I got to play “The Chicken Dance” and actually have people enjoy it. HA!

Really, that’s all there is to say. It was an awesome time and I’m glad I was a part of it. Check out these photos by our buddy Elliot…he’s one of Melany’s other brothers.
This was one of those “it’s a small world” weddings.

So, this awesome couple found us because of another wedding we did. Actually, one of the groomsmen was the groom in a wedding earlier in 2013. But it doesn’t stop there…turns out we all went to Rochester College and know a lot of the same people. How about it!?

Small world, huh?

Alright. Well, the word beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe the wonderful experience we had with Emily and Matt out at Addison Oaks in Leonard, MI. It was freezing cold outside, but with this very rustic setting in Northern Oakland County, we were alright with it.

Both the ceremony and reception took place in the same venue and we had a chance to be involved with both.

Immediately following the ceremony, the staff of Addison Oaks started moving tables in to place right where the seats were for the ceremony. I was impressed with how much of a well-oiled machine these folks were. Truly impressed.

The bridal party entered the reception with one of our new favorites: “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. I would actually say it IS my new favorite entrance song.

After dinner, we got down to the special dances. And this time, it was unique in that we started the specials with the daddy/daughter dance. Emily and her dad danced to Rod Stewart’s “Have I Told You Lately.” This was followed by Matt and his mom sharing their dance to “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac.

Finally, the new husband and wife danced to a cover of “500 Miles” by Sleeping at Last. It was cool, because they transitioned from their dance in to the original cut of “500 Miles.” It was pretty cool.

And as it turns out, the videographer for the day was the wife of that groomsman we mentioned earlier. She put together an AWESOME highlight video. Check it out here.

Thanks to Jesse Speelman for the awesome photos of the dancing action!

And a HUGE thank you to the Upshur and Rajter families for having us along for this special day! Congratulations!
