I will never complain when a bride and groom tell me they're in to Motown. Cocktail hour, dinner, special dances...all of it: Motown. I'm a fan.

Teresa & Randy chose Joy Manor in Westland for their reception venue. I've only played there once before so it was nice to be back. Of course, it puts a smile on my face to drive a mere 10 minutes home. Kevin and his staff at Joy Manor are friendly and efficient. They know what they're doing and go above an beyond to make sure everyone in the room is satisfied.

We were in the bigger of the two rooms. There was an anniversary party happening next to us and it was obvious who had more fun.

Special music is as follows:

INTRODUCTIONS
"Get Ready" - The Temptations

BRIDE/GROOM FIRST DANCE
"My Girl" - The Temptations

BOUQUET TOSS
"You Can't Hurry Love" - Diana Ross & The Supremes

GARTER TOSS
"The Way You Make Me Feel" - Michael Jackson

LAST SONG OF THE NIGHT
"(I've Had The) Time of My Life" - Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes

Thanks to my loving wife, I was able to play another event.

Kaleigh & Tyler came to Motor City HDJ by way of one of my wife's banking customers. When she told the father of the bride that her husband owned the best mobile DJ & entertainment company in Metro-Detroit, he was instantly sold. HA! Well, not instantly, but after a few conversations with the bride's parents they just had to have me.

And that's why I do this. I know I say it all the time, but the power of the referral is stronger than any force of nature. It makes this (my) business what it is and reaffirms that when you do good work, good things happen. I will always maintain that.

The wedding and reception were both at Cobblestone Farm in Ann Arbor. I've been there several times over the years and never get tired of the rustic view. It's such a great venue for anyone seeking the rustic vibe. I dig it.

Simple. Elegant. That's what this event was.

And it's a rare occurrence that I am able to enjoy a ceremony without being involved in some capacity. It was refreshing.

Today's wedding brought me back to the beautiful Rattlesnake Club in the heart of downtown Detroit. Right on the riverfront, this venue is class to the max. The room itself has ceilings for days and the acoustic value will turn the volume up to 11 in an instant. I've played here a few times over the years and I'm always impressed with their attention to detail. I'm always taken care of, fed, and left satisfied. So, right off the bat I can tell you to consider the Rattlesnake if you're looking for a classy venue.

Now, details.

So, this was one of the first times in 15 years that I had a technical emergency within an hour of the event starting.

DISCLAIMER: Please understand that I am an Apple fan boy through and through. I would never speak negatively of the company that has do so much to suck me in to buying all their products and not feel guilty about it.

With less than an hour to spare, the power brick that supplies power to my late-2010 model 15" Apple MacBook Pro failed. When I say FAILED I mean that the business end of the power brick sending a charge to the computer completely and utterly melted. I don't know how it happened, but can assume that the 4 years of winding and unwinding had something to do with it.

Thank God for the Staples at the end of the street. A quick business expense later and I was back in business. Nevertheless I was a bit stressed when my computer told me I was running on battery power.

Once I recovered my mini-heart attack I was able to breathe and catch a quick glimpse of the bride and groom taking pictures by the riverfront.

Back inside, I got the crowd going with their cocktail hour. They were a good mix of people, young and old. It was a very chill environment...until we got to the dancing.

All in all, this was such a fun event to be a part of. Thank you for sharing your joy with me!

Here's the special stuff:

It's exciting when I get calls for new business. So imagine my excitement when that phone call is for a friend from high school.

I hadn't seen my buddy Jason in almost 15 years and when he called me expressing interest to have me DJ his wedding I cleared my schedule immediately. He and his wife Kim invited me to party with them at Circus Park - Elf Khurafeh Shrine Center in Clio, MI. It was a mini high school reunion for me. Events like these are refreshing.

The best part of this event was the first dance that the bride and groom shared. They wrote the words and music for their song. It was absolutely wonderful! I love creativity. Sharing this moment was extremely special.

The party was an absolute blast. The crowd danced to everything I put on. There was a good mix throughout the night, although I was able to give the bride and groom their hip hop remix session toward the end.

Thanks for letting me share in your big day!

Today's wedding was all about friends, old and new.

So, way back in the day (which was a Wednesday) I worked for a lawn care company with Kevin. He was a technician and I was in sales. That's where this story starts. He met this girl named Taryn and when they decided it was time to get married, they called me. And I'm glad they did.

Their wedding brought me back to Arnaldo's Banquet & Conference Center in Riverview. Mario and his crew took care of me (as usual). You can't ask for a better staff.

The bride and groom also decided to use Patrick Abel of Special Moments Photography as their photographer. I've worked with Patrick one other time over the years but we've run in to each other at various venues around Metro-Detroit. Friends, old and new.

This was a great event on such a weird day. The day was only weird because the weather came in and knocked out power to everyone around the venue...including the hotel where all of the guests were staying. So, there was that. But, I did my best to keep folks posted and informed about what was going on.

The room was awesome. Arnaldo's provided the uplighting for the event. The colors: pink & turquoise. It doesn't get more neon than that. Hey, it was a nice change of pace from the standard colors I run into all the time. They had a photo booth, as well. And of course I slipped in for one or two...or four.

The special music is as follows:

"Raise Your Glass", "Get the Party Started" - Pink

BRIDE/GROOM FIRST DANCE
"Scene 1: James Dean and Audrey Hepburn" - Sleeping with Sirens

DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE
"Butterfly Kisses" - Bob Carlisle

MOTHER/SON DANCE
"A Mothers Song" - T. Carter

BOUQUET TOSS
"Stupid Girls" - Pink
