I've played schools, reception halls, private residences...but I've never played a museum. Put it on the bucket list, folks.

This absolutely perfect couple had me along for their TRUE Motor City wedding at the Detroit Historical Society & Museum in the heart of Downtown. If you've ever driven by the D.I.A. you've probably seen this place and didn't even know it. It's a hidden gem and I'm glad to have been there. Also, the first time I ever got to put the Malibu on a lift for load-in. Pretty sweet gig.

I took care of sound for both the ceremony and the reception.

The ceremony was upstairs in a rotunda encircled by artifacts from different decades of Detroit's history. Pretty cool view, if you ask me.
The ceremony was pretty succinct. Short, sweet, and to the point. There was a brief intermission for me to do a reset before we moved the party downstairs to the "Old Streets of Detroit." Oh...just wait. It gets sweeter.

During cocktail hour, guests were invited to tour the museum and check things out. Once we rounded them all up we made our way to the basement to move on with the reception. Now, this concept was cool: rolling dinner. I had never seen that done before but I was impressed with the execution of it. It keeps everyone on their feet and engaged with each other. Different stations of food with tables placed throughout the venue make for a very interesting arrangement. But it worked.

Also, this was the first event of 2014 to use the uplighting services that I offer.

I managed to do a quick browse of the museum before we got things started. But once we did, PHEW!! PAR-TEEE!

Here's the special stuff they danced to:

This wonderful couple came to Motor City HDJ by way of someone else's availability. I was able to step in at the last minute and step up for these two.

I had the pleasure of playing for Cherylin and Paul at the other Zuccaro's location in Clinton Township. I played at the Chesterfield venue a few months ago so now I have both of them under my belt.

It was a fall wedding (duh) so the colors were yellows, oranges, and browns. But the most pleasant thing for me all night was that the groom had a major hand in putting together the playlist. Lucky for me, he was also a DJ and had a jones for all that good 80's and 90's stuff.

Here's the special stuff:

BRIDAL PARTY INTRODUCTION
"Celebration" - Kool & the Gang

BRIDE/GROOM FIRST DANCE
"Only Love" - Wynonna Judd

DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE
"Isn't She Lovely" - Stevie Wonder

MOTHER/SON DANCE

BRIDAL PARTY DANCE
"Best Day of My Life" - American Authors

BOUQUET TOSS

There are few places I get to play where I feel I am among friends. St. Mary's Cultural Center in Livonia is on that very short list of venues. And I may be partial to this place because I may have gotten married next door at the church...and my wife's family may have been members there for years...and I may know some of the staff very well. I ran in to my buddy Suhail behind the bar (picture below.)

It's just one of those places.

It was good to be back at St. Mary's to celebrate with Stacie, Rob, and their families & friends. It was the first wedding of October and thanks to a referral I was here for the party.

The bridal party showed up in the trolley limousine from Entertainment Express. Red carpet and all.

The crowd was a good mix of young and old. Everyone got to hear what they wanted and the energy was at 11 all night. Thanks to the bride's sister Jamie for hooking up the referral! And an even bigger thank you to the bride and groom for being an amazing couple and throwing an amazing party! I wish you two the very best and am excited for what the future holds.

And Rob, thank you for your service.
